Il “cornigiaro” Francesco Perone e il pittore Luigi Gentile, due nomi per un quadro custodito ad Alba de Tormes
All’interno del convento de Carmelitas Descalzas di Alba de Tormes, a Salamanca, tra vari manufatti è possibile ammirare un dipinto all’interno di una cornice in argento che rappresenta il tema iconografico della Presentazione al Tempio. L’opera non presenta punzoni o firme degli artisti, ma uno stemma sul retro, appartenente a Innocenzo X Pamphilj, palesa una significativa traccia per comprendere chi abbia potuto realizzare il quadro per il pontefice romano, in un arco temporale che oscilla tra il 1644 e il 1655, ovvero negli anni del suo pontificato. La ricerca presso l’archivio di Stato di Roma ha consentito di trovare utili informazioni per realizzare ipotesi attributive e rivelare il nome dell’argentiere che ha realizzato la cornice e quello del pittore del soggetto iconografico. Un’attenta analisi dei documenti e convincenti riscontri storico artistici hanno consentito di mettere nuovamente in luce questa opera.
“Cornigiaro” Francesco Perone and painter Luigi Gentile, two names for a picture guarded at Alba de Tormes
Inside the Convent of Carmelitas Descalzas de Alba de Tormes, Salamanca, among various artifacts, it is possible to admire a painting inside a silver frame representing the iconographic theme of the Presentation at the Temple. The art-work presents no marks or signature of the authors, but a coat of arms in the back belonging to Innocent X Pamphilj reveals a significant trace to identify the possible maker of both the framework and the painting for the Roman Pontiff, in a temporal range from 1644 to 1655, i.e the years of his pontificate. The research carried out at the ‘Archivio di Stato in Rome’ has allowed to find information useful to conceive attributive hypotheses and, therefore, to reveal the possible names of the silversmith who made the silver frame and of the painter of the iconographic subject. The analysis of the documentation and the art-historical evidence, once again brings to light this art-work.

An unpublished document on the Sicilian furnishings of the eighteenth century. The bed of the daughter of the Marchese D’Amico (1791)
The author publishes the estimate of the bed that Don Giuseppe Farao performs on the occasion of his marriage to Maria Rosaria D’Amico, celebrated in 1791 in the church of S. Maria Maggiore of Milazzo (Messina). It is an unpublished document that provides valuable information about the sumptuous furnishings of the time, mostly made of fine fabrics and often embellished with embroidery.
